Hosts 21st Annual Health Fair: The Timothy Dwight School,
2424 Jerome Ave., hosts its annual Health Fair,
Friday, May 17 from 8:30 a.m.
to 2 p.m. in its schoolyard. Activities include face painting, arts and
crafts, library card registrations, and information on health insurance

Stop Smoking
Program at North Central Bronx Hospital,
3424 Kossuth Ave., offers free group counseling and nicotine replacement
therapy for smokers looking to quit. No appointments are needed or
required, walk-ins are welcome. The smoking cessation program runs
weekdays at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. in room 13A12. For information, call

- Montefiore Medical Center has created a
new text
messaging program called “Bronx4Bronx”
in an effort to help Bronx residents take better care of
themselves. Bronx4Bronx delivers
health tips and information via text message three times a week to its
users. The program is available in English and
Spanish, and users can opt in or out at any time. To receive
health messages, text Bx4Bx to 32075 (for Spanish, text Bx4BxS to

Alzheimer’s Support Group: The Alzheimer’s Association’s New York
City : chapter provides a support group in Norwood
for Spanish and English speaking caregivers
who have relatives with Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia.
The support group meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month

Center is offering a free 20-week course on meditation
and stress management for breast cancer survivors. The

Medicine Programs for Cancer Patients: The
Psychosocial Oncology Program at The Monteefiore-Einstein
Cancer Center is offering two free research programs for
patients with cancer. The Yoga-Based Cancer Rehabilitation
Program includes 12 weeks of yoga to see if yoga can help
patients with breast, lung, and colorectal cancer. A
certified yoga instructor teaches classes in both English
and Spanish. The Mind-Body Cancer Program includes 8 weeks
of Mind-Body groups (The Stress Management Education Group
and the Spiritual Support Group) for patients with most
types of cancer. Some restrictions apply to these groups,
which have been specifically designed by a psychologist and

Quality of Life Screening:
In order to improve the support services for all those
affected by cancer, the Psychosocial Oncology Program of
the Montefiore-Einstein Cancer Center is conducting a
survey about the physical and emotional stresses related to
surviving cancer. Open to all those whose lives have been
touched by cancer, participants will fill out a short
questionnaire and will have the opportunity to participate
in free/low-cost programs and support services. For more

Be Smart Quit
Smoking Program: (open to anyone interested in
quitting smoking) The Montefiore-Einstein Cancer Center
is offering a low cost 8-session smoking cessation program
created by a Health Psychologist. This program includes a
warm, supportive atmosphere, pharmacotherapy discussion,
self-hypnosis and relaxation training, guest speakers, tips
for breaking the habit, tools for conquering urges and
temptations, and free nicotine replacement therapy. Groups
meet at various Montefiore Medical Center locations in
the Bronx; day and evening groups available. If you
