Requiring Tetanus Booster: MS
80 has announced that all students entering 6th or 7th grade
in the 2008-09 school year and who are 11 years or older must
receive the tetanus booster (“Tdap”) vaccine. For more

The
Bronx Bombers girls travel soccer team is looking for
a few good fourth grade players. Students born after
Aug. 1, 1998 must be able to
attend twice-weekly practices in Van Cortlandt Park and
travel to southern Westchester for games. For more information,

GED Program for Out of School Youth:
The New Options Program and Young Adult
Internship Program are offering General Equivalency
Diploma classes to 16-21-year-olds who are working and no longer in
school. The program also offers vocational job training and full
placements with stipends. The program takes place at the Educational

Summer Youth Employment
Program (SYEP) Applications are now available at the
Mosholu-Montefiore Community Center, 3450 DeKalb Ave., for 14-21
year olds. Applications can be picked up and dropped off
Mondays through Fridays from
2:30 to 6 p.m. or candidates can apply online at

Girls Softball League
Enrollment, Registration is now
being accepted for the Spring Girls Softball League at
the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center. The league accepts
girls ages 9 to 15. Each player receives a uniform and a trophy for

Little League
Registration: The Fordham Bedford Little League is
currently accepting applications for interested boys and girls from

Speech Center Program. The Mount Saint Ursula Speech
Center is accepting applications for its fall program. The
Center, at 2885 Marion Ave., has morning and afternoon openings for
children ages 2 to 5 who are in need of
speech and language services. Children can work in groups or

Be a Bronx River Steward:
The Bronx River Alliance is seeking local
residents and groups from middle and high schools, youth
programs and community organizations to become volunteer
water quality monitors, or stewards, along their local
stretches of the river. Stewards will assess all aspects
of the river in order to understand more about its
health and viability as a community resource. The
Alliance will train and equip volunteer monitors.
Steward training day is Sept. 16 (all day). For more
