A Special Message From Bronx Borough President
Adolfo Carrión, Jr.

The Bronx is up!  More and more Bronxites are seeing the changed fortunes of their borough and feeling a spirit of excitement about the future.  New housing, new jobs, new businesses moving in, increased safety and reclaimed neighborhoods are just some of the good news stories that The Bronx is celebrating.

The Yankees, our beloved Bronx Bombers, are staying in their time-honored home and making a commitment to our economic and educational future.  Nineteen new high schools will be created here over the next 166 months, replacing under performing schools.

New stores are opening, rebuilding the Bronx’ retail base.  Recently, both TJ Max and PC Richards signed leases for major new stores in the old Alexander’s/Caldors building.  Target is building a huge new megastore on 225th Street.

Over a million square feet of office space are in development at a number of sites around the borough, including 500,000 square feet in one project at the old Bronx Developmental Center site in the East Bronx.

In the ‘90s, we recovered all the jobs lost in the ‘70s and ‘80s.  In fact, since 1995, the Bronx has gained almost 18,000 jobs in total.

The twelve community boards throughout The Bronx have played a vital role in this resurgence.  They are an important partner in government, planning for their districts’ futures, and monitoring the delivery of city services in their communities.  I hope that you will find the information posted on the community boards' web pages to be helpful.  Remember, the boards are here to serve you.
